Solar Porch Panel Selection & Measurement Guide

1Select Your Frame

Porch panels are available only with a 1-inch-wide frame face and .024-inch wall. Choose 5/16-inch or 7/16-inch frame depth to fit your retaining system. Frame depth is separate from the 1-inch face width.

Choose Your Frame Profile

Available porch profiles: 5/16″ × 1″ and 7/16″ × 1″, both with .024″ walls.

5/16″ × 1″
5/16″ × 1″ frame profile with .024 inch wall thickness
7/16″ × 1″
7/16″ × 1″ frame profile with .024 inch wall thickness

Choose Your Frame Finish

Finish Appearance
White A bright, clean finish.
Black A dark finish for a defined frame outline.
Tan A warm, light neutral.
Champagne A muted neutral finish.
Bronze A deep brown finish.
Mill Unpainted aluminum.

Color samples are approximate. Actual finishes may vary from what appears on your screen.

Check the fit: Only 1-inch-wide frame faces are offered for porch panels. Confirm the required frame depth, retaining-channel clearance and hardware fit before ordering.Check the fit: A wider frame face can change clearance around the window track and hardware. Match the original profile whenever possible.

2. Select Your Mesh

Compare Nano and Textilene solar fabrics. Shade, outward visibility, and airflow vary with the selected mesh.

Nano 50

Lighter solar shading

A solar-screen option for balancing shade and outward visibility.

Nano 60

A middle shade option

A step between Nano 50 and Nano 70 in the Nano family.

Nano 70

Heavy-duty no-see-um screeningMore shade in the Nano family

Combines solar shading with heavy-duty small-insect screening.

Nano 95

Dense solar shading

For applications prioritizing a denser sun-control fabric.

Textilene 80

Solar shade

An exterior solar-screen fabric; compare it with Textilene 90.

Textilene 90

Denser solar shade

A denser solar-screen fabric than Textilene 80.

Confirm available mesh colors in the product options. Nano 50, 60, and 70 are offered in black. Displayed colors are approximate.

3. Take Measurements

Provide the finished outside width and height of each panel, including its frame. Record each porch opening separately; do not assume adjacent openings are identical.

Replacing an existing panel

Measure a square, undamaged panel that fits correctly. Check width at the top and bottom and height on both sides. Record frame depth and existing hardware locations.

No existing panel?

Identify the channels, stops or retaining surfaces where the panel will seat. Measure the opening width at the top, middle and bottom, and height at the left, middle and right. Check diagonals for squareness and note installation obstructions.

Opening dimensions are not finished panel dimensions. Confirm clearance with the instructions for your retaining system; do not apply a universal deduction. Send photos and measurements if the fit is uncertain.

Measure twice, order once: Record to the nearest 1/16 inch, width first, height second. Clearly label finished panel dimensions and each opening location.

4Select Your Cross Bars

A cross bar is recommended for porch panels to help support the frame. Specify horizontal or vertical orientation and the location of each bar.

Small horizontal and vertical crossbar diagrams showing measurements to bar center
Selection What to Specify
No Cross Bar Choose when your screen does not require a cross bar.
Horizontal Cross Bar Runs parallel to the screen width. Specify its location.
Vertical Cross Bar Runs parallel to the screen height. Specify its location.

Take Cross Bar Measurements

For a horizontal cross bar, measure from the outside bottom edge of the screen frame to the center of the cross bar. For a vertical cross bar, measure from the outside left edge of the screen frame to the center of the cross bar, using the same viewing side throughout your measurements.

No Existing Cross Bar to Copy?

Choose whether the screen needs a horizontal or vertical bar. To align it with a porch rail, first confirm the finished screen size and where its outside edges will sit in the window. Then measure from that intended outside bottom edge to the rail center for a horizontal bar, or from the intended outside left edge to the rail center for a vertical bar. Record the viewing side. Do not measure from the sill or opening edge unless it coincides with the finished screen edge.

Match your existing layout: Check cross bar placement against the window rail so the bar lines up where you want it. Specify the orientation and location for each bar.

5Select Your Hardware

Select hardware that matches how your screen installs in the window. Use your existing screen and porch retaining channel as references, and specify the quantity and placement required.

Hardware Also Called Hardware Graphic
Leaf Spring Slide In Tension Spring Leaf Spring
Standard Tension Spring Wire Tension Spring Standard Tension Spring
Bale Clip Ram-Horn Clip Bale Clip
Pull Tab Lift Tab Pull Tab
Plunger Pin Spring Plunger Plunger Pin
Turn Latch Acorn Latch Turn Latch

Specify Hardware Placement

For plunger pins and turn latches, specify the rail, quantity and distance from a stated outside frame corner to the center of each item. Slide and butterfly latches are not offered on these porch panels.

Use one consistent viewing side for all left and right references. Include a marked photo or sketch when the hardware arrangement is unusual or needs to match an existing screen.

Pull tabs and leaf springs: Standard placement may be used when no special location is required. Provide measurements when your window needs a specific arrangement.

Basic hardware: Pull tabs are included with leaf springs, wire tension springs, or bale clips. Location options are top/bottom or left/right.

Plunger placement: 4 inches from the corner unless specified otherwise.
